The difficulty in getting more truth or "anti-marketing" out is not just a result of the mass media. An additional issue is that using the recession as an explanation/excuse only furthers the systemic problem and indoctrination that more school = more earning power.
I recently had a discussion with someone who was not sure if he wanted to attend law school in the fall (he was admitted to a few top 50 schools). He mentioned that all the marketing and job stats seemed so rosy but he sensed there was more to learn.
Rather than (continue to) blabber on, I thought a Wall Street Journal article from 2007 would carry more credibility and weight. Specifically, check out the graph on the left comparing GDP to legal services.
